Council wrap: Taking care of city business

Santa Clarita City Council members voted on the following items Tuesday:

* Adopt an ordinance requiring property owners to get a permit before modifying a historic structure within the city limits. The ordinance is effective Oct. 9. APPROVED 3-2, Kellar and Ferry dissenting.

* Loan $2.7 million to Mercy Housing California to help purchase and rehabilitate the Hidaway Apartments in Canyon Country. The nonprofit group plans to convert each of the 67 units to affordable housing. Fourteen units are already considered affordable. APPROVED 5-0.

* Approve the maintenance agreement to landscape part of the Lost Canyon Trailhead in the Sand Canyon portion of Canyon Country. Improvements include planting trees, irrigation and shoulder leveling along Lost Canyon Road. Construction would begin in early fall. APPROVED 5-0.

* Place two-hour parking restrictions for 24513 Main Street and 24158 Newhall Avenue in Newhall. APPROVED 5-0.

* Pay $150,000 to Dangling Carrot Creative for street pole and paseo banner hanging services for the city. APPROVED 5-0.
