Original post, Jan. 11, 4:55 a.m.:
A 21-year-old Stevenson Ranch man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash in Van Nuys that killed a 76-year-old man, authorities said Monday.

Adrian Diamond allegedly struck and killed North Hollywood resident Earl Biggs at 8 p.m. Saturday, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.

Diamond was allegedly driving a Ford Thunderbird northbound on Coldwater Canyon Avenue approaching Sherman Way when he struck Biggs, who was crossing the street midblock.

Biggs was taken to a nearby hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

According to the statement, Diamond fled the scene of the crash but was arrested six hours later at 2 a.m. Sunday when he drove back to the scene of the crime.

Diamond was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run and was being held Monday at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles on $50,000 bail, according to arrest records.

But Diamond may not have faced any charges had he stayed at the site of the crash, according to the statement.

Anybody with information about the crash is being asked to call Valley Traffic Division officers at (818) 644-8032 or detectives at (818) 644-8021.
