There are better ways to beautify our valley

Regarding the proposed beautification project for Auto Row, our City Council seems to have money available for projects that may look wonderful in an architectural rendering, but not in reality.

For example, I give readers a street once called San Fernando Road, now split and renamed either “Newhall” Avenue or “Railroad” Avenue We have along a good length of this road a beautiful center island.

Unfortunately, we also have a left and right side, which are in serious need of beautification. It seems the council only does part of the job.

Now consider the latest beautifying project to improve Auto Row — Creekside Road. It seems the council is about to spend a great amount of money doing something similar on Creekside, which will create a traffic problem, especially when vehicles are dropped off to the dealerships.

Here is a suggestion on spending this money that will truly beautify.

Expanding the homeless shelter and extending the time it is open, giving it a permanent location and keeping it open year-round, for as long as needed, would probably be considered a form of beautification.

Homeless people are not necessarily campers by choice.

I believe they would much rather sleep with a permanent roof over their head than under a bridge.
