A man received only minor injuries after being struck by a Metrolink train Saturday afternoon, according to Sgt. Michael Wright of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

At around 2:40 p.m., a Metrolink train was heading south inside a tunnel that runs alongside Interstate 5through the Newhall Pass when a pedestrian who was walking on the train tracks was struck, Wright said.

The Newhall Pass tunnel is a busy route for both commuter and freight trains.

The man's identity was not available late Saturday afternoon.

Wright said the man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.

His condition was not known early Saturday evening.

Wright said officials are trying to figure out why the man was walking in the tunnel.
