Valencia United Methodist Church commemorates 9/11
Valencia United Methodist Church opens its church sanctuary from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday for the community to pray and mediate. A self-guided mediation booklet featuring suggested scriptures and written prayers is available for visitors.
At 7 p.m., a more formal worship service is scheduled. Lasting less than 30 minutes, the service includes music, prayer and reflections led by the Rev. Joni Messenger and the Rev. John Shaver.
The church is located at 25718 McBean Parkway in Valencia.

Universalists host 9/11 movie night
The Unitarian Universalists of the Santa Clarita Valley hosts a special movie night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Vincenzo's Pizza in Newhall. The movie, "Encounter Point," chronicles the violence as a result of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Wafa Shami, program director of the Middle East Peace Educational program, is scheduled to speak after the movie.
"Movies to Talk About" is held at Vincenzo's Pizza Esperienza, 24504 1/2 Lyons Avenue in Newhall. The event is free and open to the public. Free soft drinks are provided.

Newhall Nazarene hosts Friendship Sunday
Newhall Nazarene hosts their annual "Friendship Sunday" fair Sunday morning, giving local residents a chance to learn more about the church.
Worship services are 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. and a continental breakfast and ministry fair will be held at the church's new familiy life center and gym from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The church choir, which is back from summer break, will perform.

Friendly Valley plans Sunday Services
Friendly Valley Community Church's Dr. Stan Fix preaches the message, "Wipe the dust off the Bible" at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The theme of Wednesday's 9:30 a.m. Bible Seminar is "The Ministry of Jesus as a Model for Living." Thursday, a weekly exercise class resumes at 10 a.m. and choir rehearsal is set for 3 p.m. The church hosts its annual barbeque 5 p.m. Sept. 14. Valencia United Methodist Church hosts "Worship in the Park" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Newhall Park. The church launches a new sermon series, "Extreme Faithover - Church Edition," led by the Rev. Temple Beth Ami hosts Havdalah in the park
Spicing up a tradition, Temple Beth Ami hosts its annual "Havadalah in the Park" to celebrate the end of the Jewish Shabbath (Shabbat) 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Valencia Meadows Park. The service becomes a community picnic and sports afternoon before the service at sundown. Most people arrive at 4 p.m. and the service starts at 7:30 p.m. Call (661) 255-6410 for more information.

Shofar Factory comes to Temple Beth Ami
Temple Beth Ami will host The Shofar Factory at 9 a.m. Sept. 15 at the temple. The shofar is the ram's horn that is blown during our High Holy Days of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The factory teaches kids how they make a traditional shofar. Call (661) 255-6410 for more information.

Jews sing the blues at CBS
The Congregation Beth Shalom Blues Band joins Rabbi Ira Rosenfeld and Cantor Beth Wasserman Rosenfeld in a special celebration musical Selichot celebration at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 at Congregation Beth Shalom, 21430 Centre Pointe Parkway. The program includes special readings and recitations by CBS congregants and guests.

Trinity Classical Academy to host WorshipFest ‘08
Trinity Classical Academy hosts its third annual WorshipFest benefit concert on at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Grace Baptist Church. The benefit concert features recording artist and worship leader Lincoln Brewster. Visitors may bring their family, a blanket and meal to Grace Baptist Church at 5 p.m. for a pre-concert picnic. Pizza and soda will be on sale. Proceeds from WorshipFest go towards Trinity's goal of providing a classical Christian education.
