This year’s Reporter for a Day impressive

I was extremely impressed with the articles that were printed in Dec. 14’s edition of Zone for Kids from Reporter for a Day at Santa Clarita’s Literacy & Arts Festival.

I don’t think I could have described the event and activities any better than these aspiring journalists. As the chair of the festival, I am proud of these pieces — I can only imagine how their parents and teachers feel.

Writing is not only part of literacy, but an art. We strive to encourage children and their families to participate and explore different arts through the festival. The Reporter for a Day activity proves that there are many students who didn’t need a lot of encouragement to put their creativity on paper.

The number of journalists was far greater than we expected. They embraced the opportunity to act as reporter with great enthusiasm and seriousness for the role. The reporters added value to the festival and supported our objective for the day. I personally want to thank each student who participated.

Also, The Signal has the sincerest gratitude of the SCV Education Foundation for their support and role in the Literacy & Arts Festival and our other programs and events. A special thanks goes to Tammy Marashlian who directed the Reporter for a Day with just as much zeal as the journalists.
