Faith Community Church continues a favorite Christmas tradition by hosting the 5th Annual "Festividad for Christ" celebration, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18.

But this year, the event features a new twist.

For the first time, "Festividad" will be held at the church on Meadowridge Drive, just off Newhall Avenue. It had been held previously at a nearby shopping center.

As in years' past, church members will distribute wrapped gifts for children up to 13 years old, along with free frozen turkeys.

For the past several weeks, the church has been collecting presents for boys and girls ages 0-3, 4-7, and 8-13, and raising money to purchase the popular turkeys.Delete - Merge Upbodycopy

"Our church strives to be a good neighbor, and this is a great way for us to share the love of Christ in a very practical way with those in our immediate community," Senior Pastor Steve Jackson said. "The event is free and we invite those who live near the church in Newhall to join us for fun and fellowship.Delete - Merge Upbodycopy

The event typically attracts up to 1,000 people, and organizers are expecting at least that many participants this year.

"With the economy being what it is, there are so many people who wouldn't be celebrating Christmas without Festividad," said Jason Semelsberger, a deacon at the church who leads the organizing efforts for the event. "We're thankful we can bring some joy and hope at a time when our neighbors need it most."

Faith Community Church is located at 24620 Meadowridge Dr., Newhall 91321.
