California Highway Patrol officers nabbed 32 drunk drivers during the Labor Day weekend, officer John Lutz said. There were no fatalities on local roads, he said.

CHP patrols were at maximum strength from Friday evening to Monday evening, which means 80 percent of available staff were on the road, Lutz said.

The last four-day period with maximum enforcement was Thanksgiving 2007 when the same amount of arrests were made that weekend, he said.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's station deputies set up a DUI checkpoint at Soledad Canyon Road, east of Golden Oak Road Friday evening. More than 1,000 cars were siphoned through the checkpoint and deputies wrote 20 citations, made two arrests and impounded 11 cars between 7 p.m. Friday night and 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
