A new outpatient lab center will make it a little easier for residents on the south side of the city to get their blood work done.

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital opened a new lab service center on Lyons Avenue in Newhall on Friday to "make it as convenient to folks as possible," hospital spokeswoman Laura Young said Monday.

The outpatient lab is one of four centers that collects blood and urine samples for physician-ordered tests, including cholesterol and glucose tests, metabolic panels and drug monitoring tests.

Samples are taken to the hospital's medical laboratory for testing. The hospital already has two lab center at the main hospital campus in Valencia as well as a lab center that opened last year in Canyon Country for east side residents.

"When you choose Henry Mayo's outpatient laboratory centers, you can be assured that your blood will be expertly drawn by our courteous and experienced, licensed phlebotomy staff," Jonathan Miller, director of laboratory services, said in a statement. "Testing is performed at our main hospital by skilled clinical laboratory scientists who are licensed to perform complex testing and provide accurate, timely results using state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Most results are available to the physician the same or next day."

The new center is located in the Valencia Medical Building at 23928 Lyons Avenue and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is closed from 1 to 2 p.m.

Services are offered on a walk-in basis. Contact the lab at (661) 287-1528 for more information.
