The Santa Clarita Valley was buffeted by strong breezes and gusty winds Friday and Friday night, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a wind avisory to be in effect at least until 6 p.m. Saturday.

North to northwesterly winds of 15 mph to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected to peak Saturday morning before shifting to the northeast Saturday night into Sunday, according to the service.

Although some weakening is expected by Saturday evening, the service will extend the advisory if the gusty conditions persist.

The service cautions that these winds will impact travel on the Highway 14 and Interstate 5 corridors through the SCV.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles are advised to proceed with caution on those routes.
