So far, Saturday's "Fun in the Sun Chili Cookoff" has raised $17,000 for the Special Olympics Santa Clarita and Heads Up Therapy on Horseback, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Gerri McCorkle, one of the event's coordinators.

The number can increase as donations are still coming in. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Departmen hosted the annual event at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center in Castaic hosted the event. The winners in the chili category were:

n People's Choice: North Facility
n The Hottest: South Facility
n Overall: (First) North County Correctional Facilities (Second) Special Victims Bureau (Third) South Facility

For the booth categories, the winners were:
n Most Creative: East Facility
n Most Spirited: Military Activation Committee
n Best Theme: Facilities Maintenance.
