A Saturday afternoon power outage in Valencia left more than 600 Southern California Edison customers without power and snarled traffic on local streets.

At around 4:30 p.m., balloons got into an area of power lines on Bouquet Canyon Road north of Valencia Boulevard, according to Rudy Gonzales, region manager for Edison.

The wires came down, resulting in the outage, he said.

The outage impacted the area north of Magic Mountain Parkway, south of Newhall Ranch Road east of Southfork Trail and west of Springbrook Avenue.

Initially, 660 customers lost power, but an hour later, 419 customers were left without power, Gonzales said, as Edison crews isolated the outage.

By 6:05 p.m., all the power was restored.

The outage affected many major Valencia intersections, backing up traffic in the afternoon. However, no major traffic collisions were reported, according to Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
