Road, campus extensions planned in Placerita Canyon

Placerita Canyon residents can weigh in this week on plans to expand The Master's College campus and extend two roads across the ridge of the canyon.

The college is looking to add a new chapel, two classrooms and a new dormitory as part of a 10-year master plan.

The college's plans went before the Planning Commission in July and city planners expect public hearings to continue with the Planning Commission through October, according to a city staff report.

A big concern among some residents has been the traffic that could cut through their neighborhoods when the college extends Deputy Jake Drive and Dockweiler Drive across a ridge south of the campus.

Dockweiler would eventually stretch from Sierra Highway to Lyons Avenue. Deputy Jake Drive would stretch from the hilltop east of the college to the school's entrance on the west side of campus, college consultants said.

The plans also call for 54 multi-family condominiums to be built south of the future Dockweiler Drive.

The college plans to sell the condominium units to offset some of the costs of the college's expansion.

The public hearing will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall at 23930 Valencia Blvd.
