With Thanksgiving behind us, it means the year-end holiday season is officially here.

During the month of December, there will be plenty of opportunities to get into the holiday spirit by bringing the family to Old Town Newhall.

From theater performances to festivals to eclectic shopping and dining choices, Old Town Newhall offers a little something for everyone.

The First Thursday Art Walk returns to Old Town Newhall has returned. The Art Walk, where local businesses open their doors to showcase both performance and visual artists, takes place from 4-7 p.m.

It runs concurrent with the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market, where you can purchase all the ingredients you need for your holiday menus.

On Dec. 4, Newhall Park will be filled with book lovers for the annual Literacy and Arts Festival. Held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the free festival will provide entertainment, education and activities designed to encourage, promote and expose the importance of literacy and the performing arts to people of all ages. More about the festival is available at scveducationfoundation.org/festival.

The Newhall holiday festivities continue on Dec. 5 with the arrival of the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express. Help spread holiday cheer by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the Newhall Metrolink station at 7:30 p.m. to be picked up by Santa, Mrs. Claus and their friends aboard the glittering Metrolink Holiday Toy Express.

Decorated with holiday displays and 50,000 twinkling lights, the 450-ton train will offer community fun to residents of all ages. All toys will be donated to the Southland Firefighters’ Spark of Love toy drive.

The Veterans Historical Plaza Tree Lighting will take place Dec. 11.   In addition to a tree-lighting event, there will be special guest speakers and festive holiday music. For more information, please call the city at (661) 286-4018.

Throughout the month of December, residents can attend fantastic performances at theaters located right on Main Street in Old Town Newhall. The Canyon Guild Theatre will celebrate the holidays with their rendition of the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” Performances run Friday through Sunday until December 19. For more information, please call (661) 799-2720 or visit canyontheatre.org.

The Repertory East Playhouse presents “Amadeus,” a tale of the lives of composers Mozart and Salieri. “Amadeus” will run through Dec. 11 on Friday and Saturday evenings with a Sunday matinee. For more information, please call (661) 288-0000 or visit repeastplayhouse.org.

For those who love to shop, Old Town Newhall has a plethora of shopping opportunities.  For the sports lover, there’s a soccer store, bicycle shops, a surf and boarding shop and a golf store.

Unique gift shops, one-of-a-kind secondhand shops, trendy clothing boutique, a day spa, yoga, a cookbook shop and so much more are all within a few short blocks in Old Town Newhall.

If all that holiday shopping awakens your appetite, authentic Mexican cuisine, Italian food, the area’s oldest coffee shop, tasty bakeries, Thai food and the home of 101 omelets are all part of Old Town Newhall.

In addition to setting the stage for festive activities and theatrical performances, Old Town Newhall remains a great place to shop local in style.

Residents can check items from holiday wish lists while browsing the eclectic shops lining Main Street’s newly revamped streetscape.

Whatever your needs this holiday season  from shopping to entertainment — Old Town Newhall’s got you covered.
