Stevenson Ranch and Castaic residents will have a new trash hauler beginning in November.

Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc. will provide services to 15,000 customers in the Santa Clarita Valley’s unincorporated areas starting on Nov. 1. The company will be under contract with Los Angeles County. The county to oversee rate increases and address quality control concerns, said Virginia Maloles, a county Department of Public Works management specialist.

The county will soon have trash company franchises for all its unincorporated areas, which will allow the county to have greater oversight over trash haulers.

Burrtec is already under contract with the city of Santa Clarita for commercial services. Maloles said she expects the county to contract with Burrtec for commercial services within the next two years. Waste Management has provided residential and commercial trash services to the Santa Clarita Valley’s unincorporated areas for more than 20 years, said Waste Management Spokeswoman Sandra Pursley.

Burrtec’s rate will be a standard $20.88 per month for basic services, according to the new contract.
