The city of Santa Clarita Transit and Metro have partnered to offer a free workshop for disabled riders using mobility devices or scooters on buses.

The workshop will be hosted at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will provide information on safety securement straps and pre-marking tie-down locations for riders.

Participants will receive new safety tether straps and meet with trained experts to identify bright yellow pre-marking locations for mobility straps that will enable faster securement of a wheelchair or scooter, attach tie-down hooks to tether straps or markings, recommend proper brake settings, and offer an optional lap or shoulder belt for comfort and stability.

"This workshop is a great opportunity for Santa Clarita Transit riders who use mobility devices to upgrade their safety straps and familiarize themselves with ways to maximize their stability while using public transportation," said Transit Manager Adrian Aguilar.

Availability is limited and by appointment only.

The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is located at 22900 Market St., Newhall 91321.
