It was a perfect day of wine, cheese and chocolates as Vino 100 and host committee launched a month-long fundraising campaign benefiting the Santa Clarita Autism Asperger Network on Aug.10. More than 50 guests came in support of the event hosted by state assemblyman Cameron Smyth and wife, Lena, city councilmember Laurie Ender and her husband, Chris, and Don and Cheri Fleming.

The local non-profit organization provides a support network for parents and other family members who have a loved one with an autism spectrum disorder. It is estimated that one in 150 children fall somewhere within the spectrum. That number escalates in the Santa Clarita Valley as one in every 90 children is diagnosed.

Following a brief presentation by Victoria Berrey, president of SCAAN, Emily Iland with the Community Law Enforcement Aware Response addressed those gathered with information on a special needs registry available through the local sheriff's department. Family members can register individuals with autism or other special needs with the SCV sheriff's station and, in the case of emergency, important information will be on file to aid in accessing a situation should a call involve someone listed on the registry.

During the month of August, Vino 100 will donate 10 percent of Hope Wine's Cabernet Sauvignon sales to SCAAN. Hope Wine, a unique charitable wine label, donates 50 percent of its profits towards the fight against breast cancer, AIDS and autism. Each varietal of Hope Wine's product line backs a different cause, with its label boldly showing the iconic support ribbon.

"This is a great opportunity for Vino 100 customers to support both a local and national charity," said Lil Lepore, co-owner of the specialty wine store along with Shari Frazier. "We're excited that when customers purchase Hope Wine, they are not only contributing to a national support organization, but they are also helping give back to the community by supporting a local cause."

Hope Wine is one of Vino 100's featured boutique wine labels carried year-round. Vino 100 Valencia, a unique specialty wine store, offers customers a comfortable, affordable and fun way to buy wines by offering over 100 different labels all affordably priced.
