The SCV Emergency Winter Shelter invites the community to enjoy its annual Humor Helps comedy fundraiser, a four-headliner show featuring Randy Lubas, Don McMillan, Derrick Cameron and comedy magician Hal Marquardt.

Humor Helps will be held in Slattery Hall at Blessed Kateri Catholic church, 22508 Copper Hill Drive in Saugus, at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14. An auction will take place at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets to the show are $12 and all proceeds benefit the Winter Shelter, which is preparing to open on Dec. 1.
Last year the shelter was able to help 16 families find jobs or housing or both. A total of 220 singles received shelter and meals. Volunteers provided and served more than 15,000 meals.

"After the great demands of last year, we have planned for an equal or greater number of homeless people coming to us for help this winter," said the shelter's executive director, Tim Davis. "We have added two more buildings to the shelter to be able to increase our capacity from 40 cots to 54 to meet this expected need."

As government funding is limited this year, the shelter is counting on the community's generosity and sense of humor to help bridge a funding gap.

Humor Helps is a family-friendly event. With comedy talent provided through J.R.'s Comedy Club of Valencia, this year's show is sure to entertain visitors of all ages.

McMillan has had numerous television appearances including "The Tonight Show" on NBC, CNN's "The Larry King Show," MTV's "Half Hour Comedy Hour," and A&E's "Evening at the Improv." Lubas has performed more than 5,000 shows in 40 states. He has made dozens of television appearances on Showtime, Fox's "Comedy Express" and more. He is also the owner of J.R.'s Comedy Club in Valencia. Cameron has been on The Tonight Show, HBO, and is one of the top comics in the country. Marquardt specializes in stand-up comedy magic.
