Running red lights

In the past couple of days, while driving to work, I have witnessed vehicles on Stevenson Ranch Parkway and The Old Road running red lights. One car in particular ran two lights back-to-back.

These instances occurred during heavy traffic in the morning. All of these cars were being driven by adults with young children as passengers so it’s safe to assume they were on their way to the schools in West Ranch.

Furthermore, the running of the lights were not even close. The lights had been red for two or three seconds prior to these vehicles entering the intersections.

These parents were not only clearly endangering the lives of other drivers, but shockingly, the lives of their own children as well.

As one of four judges for our local community court, we educate our local teen drivers on safe driving habits and to be respectful of the rules of the road at all times. They are taught that reckless and/or inattentive driving habits eventually have tragic results.

It is imperative for our “adult” drivers to set an example for our younger drivers, as well as our future drivers, to be safe.

Callously running red lights teaches our youths nothing but recklessness, and disrespect for others’ safety.

Please, parents, take our responsibility as role models seriously so that everyone, including your own children, can make it to their destinations safely.
