Ready or not, the holiday season is here! The kickoff to the holiday season in the Santa Clarita Valley is always the bright and beautiful Festival of Trees event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.

Suzanne Benty, special events coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club of SCV Foundation, said many new features have been added to the eighth annual Festival of Trees celebration. The opportunity to purchase exquisite holiday décor includes the 42 large decorated trees, 40 to 45 table top trees, wreaths and centerpieces.

Tabletop trees and 13 of the large trees will be sold by silent auction bid. The other 29 large trees will be sold in a live auction during the Magic of the Lights Gala.

The gingerbread village will house an estimated 100 gingerbread houses, created by individuals, girl scout troops, church groups and professionals.

I'm always in awe of the creativity that goes into crafting the many clever gingerbread houses. These tasty looking creations are not edible, but the creativity involved goes way beyond shredded wheat roofs and gumdrop decor.

"A new item this year will be nice, elaborate stockings filled with gift items that people can purchase," said Benty.

The boutique will feature 25 vendors for the adults only event VIP Night, (5-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18) their $10 admission ticket will give them the first opportunity to scoop up the best of the boutique items.

The event will also feature photos with Santa, food, a Children's Corner and a Boys & Girls Club of SCV boutique featuring holiday décor, gifts, beauty items and decorative home décor.

The Boys & Girls Club of SCV serves nearly 3,000 children in the SCV at facilities located in Newhall, Canyon Country and Val Verde.
