The Signal has established objectives for the Business section with the goal of reflecting the community in which we live and work:

1. Focus on the local business community
2. Actively engage business owners, leaders and residents
4. Create an exchange of information and ideas via the content

To this intent, we are seeking columns that mirror the above goals, bringing local businesses and readers together.

Columns serve a very integral role in the process of forming content of value to our newspaper readers. We appreciate and welcome your contributions, and thank you for your ongoing interest as we seek to improve the Business section.

To assist you in writing columns, we have developed a set of guidelines.

SUBMISSIONS:
• E-MAIL TO Columns should be sent to biznews@the-signal.com.
• DEADLINES Columns are due 4 business days prior to publication.
• SUBJECT FIELD Enter the name or title of the column and the scheduled date of publication in the subject field of the e-mail. Example: "It's the Law, 12/3"

BASICS:
• 600 WORDS We ask that columns run 500 to 600 words in length. Columns that are too long will be returned so that the article can be edited to length.
• BUSINESS Columns must reflect the day-to-day needs and interests of the SCV business community and consumers.
• ORIGINAL Columns must be original and the work of the columnists submitting material.
• PUBLICATION Columns accepted for publication appear in The Signal and on the newspaper's website. They are copyrighted by The Signal.
• SPACE AVAILABILITY Based on column content and space availability, The Signal cannot guarantee all columns will publish.
• RESERVE THE RIGHT The Signal reserves the right to edit a column, or to not publish a column.
• TAG LINES All columns will end with the name of the writer and company name, address, phone number and Web address as desired. The writer may add a disclaimer if he or she chooses, such as "This article is intended to provide general information and is not considered (financial, legal, business or tax) advice. Please consult your (legal, financial or tax) adviser." The Signal will also add: "The column represents the views of (the writer), and not necessarily those of The Signal."
