Assistance League Back to School
The Assistance League of Santa Clarita is featuring “Back to School” shopping through Aug. 30 at their Take Two Resale shop. Proceeds benefit various philanthropic programs, including Operation School Bell.  Store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Summer Food Drive

The City of Santa Clarita will host a special Summer Food Drive through Friday at three City locations: City Hall, the Transit Maintenance Facility and the Aquatics Center. Donations may be dropped off Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and on Fridays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, contact Belinda Crawford at (661) 255-9078.

SCV Macintosh Users Group

Duplicate Bridge Game

Specialty Toastmaster Club
The Specialty Toastmaster Club meets every other Tuesday to learn self-confidence through public speaking in a supportive environment. Networking with snacks starts at 5:15 p.m. and the meeting starts at 5:30. The club meets at the Specialty Labs Theater at 27027 Tourney Road in Valencia next to Kaiser Hospital. Ghost Hunting Party

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society and the American Paranormal Research Association will host a ghost hunting part at Heritage Junction Park on Aug. 30. Participants will enjoy a discussion about ghost hunting equipment and procedures, a catered dinner, a ghost-hunting session in three buildings at Heritage Junction, a sleepover in Saugus Train Station’s freight room, and more. Hart High Show Choir Fundraiser
The Hart High School Show Choir will have a fundraiser on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Harvard Din & Tonics, an all male acapella group, will be performing at the event.  Tickets are $10 for students and seniors, $15 for adults and $20 for premium seating. Heart Link Network Meeting
The Heart Link Network is a monthly relaxed dinner/networking gathering for women.

Castaic Lake Programs
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting two new programs at Castaic Lake Recreation Area. For Movies at the Lake, the community is invited to bring snacks, a comfortable chair or blanket and enjoy a family movie in Paradise Cove on the lagoon. Vehicle parking is $11 but the movie is free. Movies are scheduled for Sept. 5 and Oct. 3. A Summer Campfire Talk Series will be held every Saturday at the new campground amphitheater, on the east side of the lagoon, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There will be talks about sailing, kayaking, fishing, astronomy and local history. History of the Ridge Route

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will present a lecture at 2 p.m. on Sept. 6 on the History of the Ridge Route. Harrison Scott, executive director of the Ridge Route Preservation Organization and author of the recently published book “Lost Hotels on California’s Historic Ridge Route“, will deliver a talk at the historic Saugus Train Station at Heritage Junction within William S. Hart Park on 24101 Newhall Ave. (formerly San Fernando Road) in Newhall. He will also be signing copies of his new book. The general public is welcome. Admission is free. COC Computer Classes
College of the Canyons is offering a series of free one-day computer classes covering several different topics.
