Time to focus on real problems

Conservatives (and their troops-on-the-ground “tea party” members) have sadly misdiagnosed what ails this country of ours.

They blame “big government” for every conceivable problem we have or face.

This is entirely untrue. Who was to blame for the Gulf oil-spill disaster? Big oil. For the home foreclosure disaster? Big banks.

For American jobs sent overseas to India, China and other places? Big business.

In each case, the federal government had nothing to do with these disasters other than lack of proper control and regulation of the real perpetrators.

So, while I share the tea party’s anger over the horrible state of affairs in this country at present, blaming the government for the situation is completely, factually wrong.

We need stronger government oversight and regulation to prevent future catastrophes from occurring, but with newly elected leaders who have received most of their campaign contributions from the perpetrators of these atrocities, don’t bet the farm on it.

I call upon people to settle down and consider where the real problems facing America lie — and who caused them.

If reason prevails over the present antigovernment hysteria, enlightenment may just occur in the nick of time — and the further destruction of our economy and institutions may be prevented.
