The Santa Clarita Koi & Water Garden Club meets on the fourth Sunday of the month at 4 p.m. The club is comprised of people who own or are building ponds that share ideas and experiences.

Sept. 14

The Santa Clarita Valley Rose Soceity will meet 2:30 p.m. at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Topic: Gisele Schoniger on "Soil Secrets for Growing Fabulous Roses." Gisele represents the Dr. Earth company and will discuss the many products they have available for roses, such as potting soils, fertilizers, and soil amendments. She will discuss trends in the industry, how to build the microbial life of your soil, what is mycorrhizal fungi and why is that so important to your rose garden. All attendees will receive educational materials and samples.

Oct. 11

The Santa Clarita Valley Rose Society will host its 15th Annual Rose Show at William S. Hart Park, on San Fernando Road in Newhall. All rose growers are welcome to exhibit at our show, including novices and children. You do not have to be a member of the society to exhibit and there are no entry fees; just bring your roses as the society will furnish the vases. There will be 68 prizes (crystal giftware) and more than 500 ribbons awarded. Five large Waterford crystal trophies are given to the top roses. For more, go to: www.scvrs.homestead.com.
