Send it our way, McKeon

We hear, courtesy of the Public Campaign Action Fund, that Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, has received $400,000 in campaign contributions this year from defense contractors.

Apparently, those contractors think that it would be good business to bankroll someone who could become chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

So now that McKeon has been bought and paid for, what’s in it for Santa Clarita? Are there huge defense contracts coming our way?

Will Northrop or Boeing set up assembly plants in the industrial park? Will the army move its logistics command to Old Town Newhall?
Probably not.

Recently, McKeon complained that the stimulus bill spent $19 billion on signs to alert people that stimulus work was being done. He called it an outrage that money was spent making signs.

Well, how much of that money was spent with sign makers in Santa Clarita? How many jobs was McKeon able to bring home to our valley?

Or was the money spent in the hometowns of the people who gave him $86,000 in the 2008 election cycle? Will the $400,000 he got this year encourage him to create jobs here?

Perhaps the nearly 200,000 residents of Santa Clarita need to pass the hat for Buck so that he sends some of that federal spending our way.
