Saugus beat Hart in a decisive 3-0 match Thursday night.

The Centurions closed out the games 25-17, 25-23 and 25-16 at Saugus High to remain tied for second place in the Foothill League.

"We knew we had to come in and play well today if we wanted to have any chance to host a playoff game or win a league title, so we really didn't have time to dwell on the loss," said Saugus head coach Zach Ambrose.

The Centurions lost 3-1 to first-place Valencia on Tuesday.

Hart (9-15, 3-5), meanwhile, fell out of contention for the third place and a final guaranteed playoff spot with the loss.

Saugus (19-5, 6-2) setter Ashley Guthrie had 31 assists and six blocks, and Sarah Blomgren and Ashley Pagan tied for a match-high 11 kills apiece.

Hart was led by outside hitter Anne Baker's seven kills and three aces. Anissa Robinson added four kills and five blocks.

Valencia 3, Canyon 0
Canyon showed its youth Thursday night at Valencia High School, and Valencia took advantage, winning 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-19.

Valencia (14-10, 7-1) retained sole possession of first place in the Foothill League with the win, and was led by outside hitter Serena LeDuff's eight kills. Carly Carapella had 24 assists.

"The number of kills wasn't particularly high but the efficiency was good," said Vikings head coach Ray Sanchez of his hitters.

The Cowboys (3-15, 2-6) had opportunities to win both the second and third games but couldn't capitalize.

"We need to finish," said Canyon head coach Brian Ingino. "We're always close up to 10 to 15 points, and we just haven't had the ability to close."

Courtney Spackman led all players with 10 kills for Canyon and fellow outside hitter Morgan Fay finished with six kills, three blocks and two aces.
