Do it Center hardware store closing

Do it Center, the hardware store on Valencia Boulevard, is closing.

The flagship store has been a fixture of the Santa Clarita Valley since the 70s. Signs went up Friday announcing the store’s closure. All merchandise has been priced for liquidation at 15-25 percent off the retail price. A spokesman with the company said the liquidation will last for a few weeks, long enough to close the store down.

Since the store opened, the street has been widened to accommodate multiple lanes of east-west traffic, and several big-box hardware stores have opened in the SCV, four in close proximity to the Do it Center. The privately owned hardware store helped community residents recover from the Northridge earthquake.

“There are a lot of great memories for us at that store,” said Laura Shanders, senior vice president. “But it’s been a slow death for us at that location since the big box stores moved in.”
