Friendly Valley board in hot water

The temperature of water in the pool in the Friendly Valley Home Owners Association has varied from 89 degrees to a low now of 75 degrees.

Robert J. Trulik, referring to a request to check the temperature of the pool, is quoted in the August 2010 Friendly Valley Maintenance Report. His response: “I will do so. I do not change the temperature; it does drop due to cooler days and less sunshine. The sun helps to heat the pool.”

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see the folly of his statement. We Friendly Valley residents have thermostats for heating and air conditioning our homes, and we expect them to heat or cool accordingly, when working properly.

I sent the necessary request form to the Recreational Board on Oct. 7. Summarized here, I wrote: “Obviously, the pool temperature would and should hold to whatever temperature its thermostat is set for. Either the heater is not working correctly, the setting is wrong or we need better maintenance.”

To date, I have not been responded to, nor has the pool temperature changed.

On Oct. 13, I wrote the Friendly Valley Community Council Board which represents all our associations. I attached a copy of the request form sent to the Recreational Board, hoping they could do something. This morning I received a call from board member Erica Dierson, who sympathetically said that they can do nothing more than make recommendations to the Recreational Board.

Trulik is the recreational board member overseeing the pool care and maintenance. He is also one of the incumbents running for re-election for the Friendly Valley Recreational Association on Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Friendly Valley Auditorium.

I suggest owners avoid voting for any of the incumbents running and cast their votes for three of the four new candidates running for positions on the board. The way I look at it is that it can’t hurt and it might help.
