A Canyon Country woman is in jail and her baby girl is in the county's custody after sheriff's deputies reportedly found the mother was using methamphetamines.

Sophie Germaine Rousset, 28, was arrested for drug use and a probation violation at her home in the 28000 block of Sara Bande Lane during a routine probation check late Thursday evening.

Rousset was arraigned in Newhall Municipal Court Monday and is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail for violating her probation and possession of methamphetamine, sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra said.

Rousset's 6-month-old daughter was turned over to the county Department of Children and Family Services, Cambra said.

The child will remain in the custody of family services until Rousset is released from jail, according to department officials.

The child and Rousset have been assigned a social worker who will evaluate whether the infant will be returned to the mother's custody.
