North Park Community Church will host two seminars about relationships this month for singles and married couples.

The Oct. 20 seminar will focus on bonding and setting boundaries, crucial to building strong relationships, and the aspects of character and compliance will be discussed on Oct. 27. A question-and-answer session will follow each topical discussion.

Both seminars take place from 6:45-8 p.m.

The seminars will lay foundational skills that will enhance all relationships, especially those seeking to improve their relationships with others.

“With all of the stresses and strains in our daily lives, our relationships with our family and friends seem to hold less importance then they did before life became so stressful and fast-paced,” said Dr. Reginald Veurink, clinical psychologist and marriage and family therapist. “It would seem only natural that in tough times, people would turn to those they are closest to — family, friends, spouses and significant others. But by the very nature of human beings, we tend to push away those closest to us, especially when we are in crisis. Understanding how we bond with others, set personal boundaries and build character can strengthen both personal relationships and working relationships.”

“The ABCs of Relationships” is part of a yearly seminar series entitled “Windows: Fresh Air and New Light for Life,” assisting people in developing emotional insight into their lives and the lives of others.

“When we focus on what or how we need to change to enhance relationships, we are often more open to others and meeting their needs,” said North Park Senior Pastor Dave White. “When we are sensitive to meeting the needs of others, we grow spiritually as well.
