The cast of "Theatricks."

The Upstart Crows, the new local theatre group that delivers witty intimate theatre, opens its new production of "Theatricks" on Friday Oct. 15 at the SCV Space, 27600 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus. The production runs two weekends, with Oct. 15, 16, 23 and 24 performances at 8 p.m. and one Sunday matinee the first weekend, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m.

"Theatricks" is two, one-act comedies about theater. The first is "Word Play" by Wade Bradford, and asks, "Can a man and his melon find true happiness? Can a person's character be created by a random search of Webster's Dictionary? Is limp rhubarb symbolic of your sex life?" These and other questions are addressed in this witty play about words, language structure and plays in general.

The second one-act is "Hermes Does Theatre" by Michael Davies. In this piece we wonder, "Theatre, the Greeks had a word for it, but did they get it right?" World famous archaeologist Arizona Brown the third discovers that the Greeks have it all wrong. In fact, if Zeus cannot be pleased, there will be no theater at all. A funny elementary look at the basis of plays.
These two shows have a local cast of talented actors on a minimal set, delivering two comical plays that you won't want to miss. More info and tickets can be found at www.upstartcrows.org.
