The Hart High School cheerleaders attended cheer camp at Soka University in July. The squad is hosting a clinic for girls ages 5 to 14 on Sept. 6.

The Hart High School cheerleaders want to share their school spirit - plus some of their cheer and dance routines - with young aspiring cheerleaders ages 5 to 14.

Hart Cheer Spirit Day, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 6 in the Hart High School gym, will feature cheer and dance instruction, games, a craft and a pizza lunch with the award-winning Hart cheerleaders.

Spirit Day has been a tradition at Hart for at least 18 years and is one of the squad's biggest fund-raisers, according to cheer parent Emily Chiominto.

"It's a big fund-raiser for us and it's a lot of fun for the girls who attend," Chiominto said.

In addition to a performance for family and friends at the end of the clinic, those who attend are also invited back to cheer with the Hart cheerleaders during the first quarter of the season-opening game at College of the Canyons.

"The kids are so thrilled to have the chance to cheer at a high school football game," Chiominto said. "It's a lot of fun for them."

Along with trips to state and national competitions, the cheer squad is raising money to attend the Aloha International Spirit Championships in Hawaii.

"Last year's team went undefeated, and the Hart cheerleaders hope to continue their winning tradition," Chiominto said.

The Spirit Day cost of $40 includes a T-shirt, a collector's pin and a pizza lunch. For information about the clinic, or to register, visit www.harths.org and click on "Performing Arts" and then on "Cheerleading."
