Local charity LETMESAIL is putting on the third annual SNAP Flag Football Tournament at Cougar Stadium on Sunday.

The event, co-sponsored by College of the Canyons with players and coaches from Cougar football lending a hand, will give disabled athletes an opportunity to compete.

It is not a fundraiser.

“This is to get some exposure for the athletes themselves,” said Chris Apsay, LETMESAIL program director. “This is to show that football is for everyone.”

LETMESAIL is a Santa Clarita Valley-based nonprofit that provides social, educational and recreational activities for the disabled.

Six local SNAP (standing for Special Needs Athletes and their Peers) teams will play flag football at Cougar Stadium at College of the Canyons.

The peer athletes are members of the Canyon and Hart High football teams.

The event is open to the public and admission is free.

It will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The football games will be played with no blocking, no tackling and no contact.
