Bow-Wows & Mows Pet Fair is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an exciting lineup of entertainment, pet-related vendors and adoptable dogs and cats from Los Angeles County shelters at Newhall’s William S. Hart Park on Sunday.

The Extreme Canine Stunt Dog Show, as seen on “Oprah,” “Ellen” and “The Tonight Show” will thrill audiences with two live performances, while the fair’s Famous Fun Dog Show, with categories ranging from best vocalist to mystery mutt to pet-owner look alike, will make a return appearance.

Shorty Rossi from Shorty’s Rescue and Shorty’s Charities as seen on Animal Planet’s “Pit Boss” show will also attend the fair, as will country artist and star of Animal Planet’s “Last Chance Highway” Lucas Hoge, Tank the Bulldog (star of the 2010 Rose Parade) and Signal Assistant Features  Editor Michelle Sathe, author of “Pit Stops: Crossing the Country with Loren the Rescue Bully.”

Free and open to the public, Bow-Wows & Meows attracts thousands of pet-loving guests every year.

“Whether you’re looking to adopt an animal or just want to enjoy a sunny day in the park, Bow-Wows & Meows is a fantastic event,” said founder Yvonne Allbee. “Since the economy’s still in rough shape, we’re happy that we can continue to provide the community with a free day of family fun.”

Guests can enjoy a tantalizing array of food, as well as visit a low-cost vaccine clinic, purchase personalized ID tags and children’s bracelets, capture the moment with pet photographers, enter to win incredible prizes in a super raffle and so much more.

There’s also a special $8 day pass to the new Kids Zone and Angel Dogs Foundation will offer free microchipping for both dogs and cats.

Interested in adoption? Guests at Bow-Wows & Meows can meet more than 200 beautiful dogs and cats, all looking for their forever homes.

Adoption fees at Bow-Wows & Meows total $30, and all pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

“Adoption is the best option when you‘re looking to add a pet to the family, and $30 is a price just about everyone can afford,” Allbee said.

“Not only will you be saving an animal’s life, you’ll help to reduce the overpopulation problem created by disreputable breeders and pet stores, which usually purchase their puppies from puppy mills,” she said.

Leashed pets are welcome at Bow-Wows & Meows, which starts at 11 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m.

The Fun Dog Show, which costs $10 to enter per category, starts at 1 p.m., while The Extreme Canine Stunt Show will be presented at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Throughout the day, DJ Mark Fortier of What A Party! will spin festive tunes and provide amusement.

Since it began in 2001, the Valencia-based Bow-Wows & Meows, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has adopted out more than 865 shelter animals at their annual pet fairs.

“Our goal is to break 200 adoptions this year, which would put us at more than 1,000 for the decade. The community has always responded with such enthusiasm to adopting at the fair, so we know we can do it,” Allbee said.

Board members of the fair work hard to put on the event each year, but it’s all worthwhile, according to Allbee. “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the animal control trucks leave empty at the end of the day and knowing that hundreds of previously homeless pets now have new families.”
