The Zonta Club of the SCV will honor a familiar face around the Santa Clarita Valley at its annual tribute dinner - Newhall's Duane Harte. The fundraising Celebrity Tribute dinner, scheduled for Friday evening, Nov. 7, at the Odyssey Restaurant in Mission Hills will honor Harte - an Un-Zon (the husband of a Zonta member) and 2003 SCV Man of the Year.

Sure to figure in the evening's festivities will be Harte's 23 years of service with the U.S. Naval Reserve, from which he retired as a senior chief petty officer in 1990, and his love of Harley Davidson motorcycles.

He is married to Zontian Pauline Harte and they have two daughters, Donna and Denise.

Harte is a strong supporter of one of Zonta's favorite philanthropies - the SCV Senior Center. He served as founding president of the SCV Senior Center Foundation and currently serves as a board member of the SCV Committee on Aging, the parent organization of the SCV Senior Center. He also served as chairman and co-chairman of the Senior Center Wine Auction for five years.

He also has been actively involved with Friends of Mentryville, Friends of the Libraries, SCV Historical Society, Veterans Memorial Committee, Historical Veterans Plaza Committee, Canyon Theatre Guild and the SCV Parade Committee.

Professionally, Harte owns Academy Addressing & Mailing, a direct mail advertising service in Sun Valley.

He is past chairman of the SCV Chamber of Commerce, which named him Ambassador of the Year in 1998 and presented him with its Outstanding Achievement Award the following year. He is a 10-year member and past chairman of the Newhall Redevelopment Committee and past chairman of the Santa Clarita Parks, Recreation and Community Service Commission.

In addition, Harte has donned the flowing white beard and red velvet Santa suit as a volunteer in Zonta's Rent-A-Santa program for the past nine years.

Co-chairwomen of the 2008 Zonta Celebrity Tribute Dinner are Judy Penman and Donna Schmidt.

"Zonta is pleased that Duane has accepted the invitation to join a long list of stellar community leaders to serve as the ‘star' of the club's major fundraising event," said Penman.
