UPDATE: Valencia Blvd. reopened

Just in time for the Friday afternoon rush, Valencia Boulevard has been reopened to traffic, said Alisha Celestine, city of Santa Clarita communications specialist, at 3:50 p.m. today.

City Public Works crews were restriping several hundred feet of new asphalt on Valencia Boulevard at the McBean Parkway intersection.

A crew of more than a dozen worked through the night to repair a 12- by 14-foot sink hole that formed as a result of a water main break Thursday afternoon.

The intersection was thrown into chaos around 6 p.m. Thursday after an underground water main burst and a small sinkhole opened up.

Valencia Boulevard was closed to traffic between Citrus Street and McBean Parkway, Celestine said. Traffic was being routed down Citrus Street to Magic Mountain Parkway.

The cause of the water main break is under investigation.
