Perhaps it’s nothing, or perhaps it’s an early warning that here in Valencia there is an absence of our feathered friends.
Where are the sparrows, wrens, nuthatches, grosbeaks, thrushes, tanagers, finches and phoebes?

Oh, you may see an occasional robin or crow, and if you go to our golf courses, you’ll see the laziest of all birds, the Canada goose. But where are the others?

With all of our parks and green belts, we should be seeing a great many birds. Does their absence forecast something? Remember the canary in the mines?

My backyard has many bushes and trees, and yet I hardly every see a bird. I have two bird baths that I fill constantly, but no birds bathe here. Are Valencia birds dirty birds?

I have some friends who are bird-watchers, but to enjoy their hobby, they have to go out of town.

What could have happened to our birds?

Question for cat owners: Does your cat often look exceptionally satisfied? Have you noticed any feather fragments about the yard?

Maybe I’m overly concerned. Is there anything we can do?

A friend suggested we erect a great many statues throughout the city. They usually attract birds, but I don’t know. Perhaps your readers have better ideas.
