Thursday evening traffic in Valencia got doused by a water main break that resulted in a small sinkhole.
Shortly before 6 p.m., an underground water main at the corner of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway burst, opening up a sinkhole and sending water gushing into the air, according to sheriff's Lt. Tom Bryski.
The intersection was flooded as traffic backed up on streets surrounding the busy intersection.
By 7:30 p.m., the water had been shut off, and Valencia Boulevard remained closed on the west and east sides of McBean Parkway, as far back as Citrus Street. The surrounding intersection was been shut down while maintenance crews work.
McBean Parkway was closed on the north side at Mall Entrance, with traffic being diverted through the McBean Transfer Station or Westfield Valencia Town Center. On the south side, it was shut down at Del Monte Drive.
Bryski said the cause of the water main break was unknown. There were no reported collisions as a result of the break.
