Members of Hart High School’s Sound Vibrations group perform during a concert last year. Sound Vibrations is the Newhall school’s advanced mixed performing arts group. The school’s Show Choir is preparing to kick off this year’s concert series with concerts at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.

Hart High School’s award-winning show choir will present its annual fall concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at the Hart High School auditorium. The concert will be the kickoff for the 2010-11 season and will highlight all four show-choir groups performing songs and dance numbers from Broadway shows like “West Side Story,” “Chorus Line,” “Hair” and “Grease.” In addition to the large group ensembles, many choir students will perform solos and smaller group acts.

Hart High show choir is an award-winning program and is among the top show choirs in Southern California. Last spring, both Sound Vibrations, Hart’s advanced mixed group, and Hartbreakers, Hart’s girls advanced group, were crowned grand champions in the annual Fame competition held last year at Lincoln Center in New York City. During the past few years, Hart High choir has received recognition after recognition and has been invited to perform at Disneyland, Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Hart Choir consists of four separate groups. The two advanced groups — Sound Vibrations and Hartbreakers — compete every year in national competitions held in New York, Orlando, Fla., and Hawaii, in addition to competing against other top high school show choirs in Southern California throughout spring semester. Sweethearts, choir’s intermediate women’s group, and Hart and Soul, choir’s intermediate mixed group, have the opportunity to perform at Disneyland and San Francisco.

In March, Hart’s show choir was filmed as the featured choir for a documentary to be shown on television in the United Kingdom following “Glee,” the network show about the inner workings of a high school show choir.
