The Department of Water Resources (DWR), in partnership with Castaic Lake Water Agency, the City of Santa Clarita, C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation and others will sponsor a “Catch a Special Thrill” for Kids event on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Castaic Lake.

The event kicks off with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed with fishing from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and wrapping up with a BBQ lunch and awards ceremony.

C.A.S.T. for Kids events give disabled and disadvantaged young people a day of outdoor adventure. Fourty-five children will receive their own rod, reel and tackle box and get to fish with top anglers from the area while learning about boating safety, ethics of fishing and natural resources.

The participating kids are from the Down Syndrome of Los Angeles, Inland Region Center, Lanterman Regional Center and San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc.

Wal-Mart is a major sponsor of this special event. Additional sponsors include the County of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation (LADPR), the Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW), the Department of Fish and Game (DFG), the Friends of Castaic Lake, Castaic Lions Club, In Style Salon and the Castaic Lake Boating and Ski Club, Coffee Stop Drive Thru, Gallion’s Corner, Starbuck’s Coffee, It’s a Grind, Ralph’s on Castaic Road, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and Universal Studios.
