Hart District high school students and their parents are encouraged to attend the SCV College2Career Day Sat., Oct. 9 to meet representatives from more than 25 colleges and universities and learn more about entrance requirements, tuition and specialties at each school.

The free event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at College of the Canyons' Valencia campus.

It's never too soon to start making plans on college selection. High school students are welcome to attend and pick up literature from the colleges participating and ask questions to the representatives on hand. COC representatives will also be available to discuss programs through the community college and transfer programs and requirements.

In addition to the college fair, COC will offer workshops throughout the morning to help students make the connection between their educational goals and the multitude of career options potentially available to them.

Highlighting the event will be a workshop created for high school students and their parents entitled "Many Ways to Win," which focuses on the three major areas of life after high school: identifying a career, getting a job and earning a living.

There will also be hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations by COC faculty members about various academic and career technical education opportunities, with the focus on exploring career paths that a college education can help prepare students for.

College of the Canyons departments scheduled to participate in the event include welding, land surveying, computer networking, electronics, EMT, fire technology, culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management, water systems technology, photography, animation, paralegal and many more.

This event promises to be a great day of gathering helpful information and exploring college and career opportunities for student and parents.
