The Canyon Country man behind bars for allegedly trying to kill his girlfriend had his arraignment continued Tuesday to Aug. 26, a court official said.

John Naglich, 49, was arrested Sunday after he allegedly choked his girlfriend until she blacked out, and then began twisting her neck and saying he was going to kill her.

He was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

Naglich was scheduled to appear in Newhall Municipal Court Tuesday morning. The case was transferred to the San Fernando Superior Court, where he will be arraigned and enter his plea on Aug. 26.

Naglich had reportedly been living with his 52-year-old girlfriend for three months in an apartment in the 28000 block of Whites Canyon Road.

The attack allegedly began with a verbal argument that turned physical.

The woman told sheriff's deputies Naglich hit her in the face, causing her to fall to the floor. He then used both hands to choke her, she told deputies.

The woman said she blacked out for a short time and when she regained consciousness, Naglich was twisting her neck with both his hands, saying he was going to snap her neck and kill her.

She said she pleaded with him to let her go, and he eventually did, at which point she ran outside and yelled for help. A neighbor reportedly saw her bleeding from the mouth and called 911.

Deputies arrived and arrested Naglich for attempted murder. He was also charged with violating his probation.

He is being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles in lieu of $1.24 million bail.
