New library would be community resource

A new library in downtown Newhall is most needed.

As chief professional officer for the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita for the past 23 years and as a resident of Newhall for 12 years, I was very pleased to hear about the new library. I am also a member of the city's Newhall Library Committee.

We have partnered with the library over the years, and the current building is very undersized compared to the other libraries in Santa Clarita.

I have staff members who spent time at the Newhall Library as a child, and some of our parents agree that a new library is much needed and vital to the neighborhood revitalization.

The building will give the community a resource center with up-to-date literacy programs, technology that would assist some families in narrowing the digital divide.

It would be a meeting place for various organizations. It would also allow schools and organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita to expand their partnership and networking activities with the Newhall Library.

We need this building in our community.
