A preliminary hearing date of March 13 has been set for Jose Adurdo Vazquez, the 20-year-old man who is accused of raping a 92-year-old woman in Newhall in December. Vazquez appeared in Superior Court in San Fernando on Thursday.

Vazquez, who was an employee of the Oakdale Heights senior complex where the woman lives, was charged with five counts in relation to the Dec. 16 attack: one count of assault with intent to commit a felony; one count of rape of an incompetent person; one count of forcible rape; one count of intent to commit a felony during commission of a first degree burglary; and one count of first degree burglary with a person present.

He is currently being held at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic in lieu of $1,275,000 bail.
