The city of Santa Clarita and the Blue Ribbon Task Force invites parents of teenagers to the 2010 Teen Scene Unplugged: Yikes! A Teenager Lives in My House! event on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia's Grand Ballroom.

Teen Scene Unplugged is designed to help parents understand their teenager's world and provide tips on guiding teens to make the right choices.

Tyler Durman, one of America's top speakers on teen issues, will address the myths and ideals of parenting today's teens and pre-teens.

Tyler will provide important tips and tools to help parents communicate and connect with their children, as well as prepare them to be successful adults.

Detective Dan Finn from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station will also be a speaker for Teen Scene Unplugged.

Detective Finn will give parents a glimpse of what goes on in the teen world, including information about teen culture and local issues, and provide important insight so parents can stay informed and vigilant.

"This extraordinary program will give parents concrete solutions to help them understand, connect, and communicate with their teens, as well as help them learn to cope and survive the teenage years," said Mayor Laurene Weste.

The Teen Scene Unplugged event is free and open to the public.

A resource fair will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and presentations from speakers Durman and Finn will be featured from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Hyatt Regency Valencia is located at 24500 Town Center Drive, Valencia 91355.
