On Sept. 11, Route 66 Classic Grill hosted a 9/11 tribute in conjunction with our monthly classic car show. As owner of Route 66, I would like to thank the many individuals who participated.

Special thanks to:

* Capt. Mickey Shaffer and the firefighters from Los Angeles County Fire Station 104. During our tribute, with dignity and honor they raised a large American flag.

* Santa Clarita City Councilman Bob Kellar for emceeing. His patriotism was evident.

* Pastor Jim Ryan from Heart of the Canyons Church offered a prayer to the victims of the 9/11 attacks and their families.

* Bob Haueter, deputy chief of staff for Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon, for his attendance and recognition of our tribute.

* Commanding Officer Mark Odle of the California Highway Patrol offered his thoughts on the impact of the attacks.

* Jim Krattiger and his lighting crew from the popular TV series "NCIS" provided the spectacular lighting that only a Hollywood lighting crew could accomplish.

* Local musicians Sara Niemietz, Tim May and Burt Diaz provided us with an evening of patriotic songs. Our bagpipe and drum team, led by John Keys and Ben Curtis, clearly reminded us of why we were there.

* The students from Safe Rides handed out hundreds of American flags to those who attended. The SCV Contemporary Car Club who helped with a variety of tasks during the tribute.

* Debbi Diaz and Eddie Marazzito, who provided our sound system, and AV Equipment Rental for donating the light towers and generator.

* Casey Lemasters and Raul Olguin, our managers, for keeping Route 66 running smoothly while I focused on the tribute.

I would also like to acknowledge Schwartz Oil Company that offered the use of its 30-foot by 50-foot American flag.

When we discovered that the flag was too large for Station 104's equipment to raise, the city of Beverly Hills stepped up and provided us with a 15-foot by 30-foot flag.

It was evident to the hundreds who attended our tribute that patriotism is alive and well here in our community. It was our goal to ensure we never forget whose lives were lost and impacted by the horrific attacks that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.

My inspiration for our tribute was my sons, Rick and Jeff, who are both firefighters.
