Repairs to carpool lanes, water pipeline will cause road closures

Caltrans will start work in the Newhall Pass Sunday

Get ready to see some detours when driving around the Santa Clarita Valley at night during the next month.

Beginning Sunday, the California Department of Transportation will close several lanes, ramps and freeway connections on Interstate 5 and Highway 14. Caltrans is starting work on new carpool lanes in the Newhall Pass.

The nightly closures from Aug. 10 through Aug. 14 are as follows:

n 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. - One to two lanes of northbound I-5 from Balboa Boulevard to Sierra Highway

7 p.m. to 6 a.m. - The southbound Highway 14 off-ramp to San Fernando Road

Overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. - Sierra Highway on-ramp to northbound I-5

Overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. - Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Sierra Highway

Overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. - Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Balboa Blvd.

Overnight from 8 p.m. to 11:59 a.m. - Southbound I-5 connector to northbound Highway 14

Overnight from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. - One to two lanes of the northbound I-5 connector to northbound Highway 14

Overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. - One lane of the northbound and/or southbound I-5 truck lanes

n
Overnight from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. - One lane of southbound I-5 from Calgrove Boulevard to Sierra Highway

Overnight from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. - Southbound Highway 14 connector to southbound I-5

Overnight from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. - One lane of southbound I-5 from Sierra Highway to Balboa

n Overnight from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. - Southbound I-5 connector to eastbound SR-210.

Overnight from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. - Two lanes of the northbound I-5 connector to northbound Highway 14

Additional road closures are planned through August 16.

In an unrelated closure, the portion of Valencia Boulevard between Bouquet Canyon Road and Magic Mountain Parkway will be closed at night for about two weeks beginning Aug. 11, due to a water pipeline project.
