An estimated 800 Massage Envy and Massage Envy Spa centers in 42 states will participate in "Massage for the Cure" on Tuesday, Sept 14, offering one-hour specially priced $49 therapeutic massages.

Proceeds from each massage session will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Santa Clarita affiliates.

The 2010 goal is to raise $500,000 through the single-day event.

Five years ago, Scottsdale, Arizona-based Massage Envy, the nation's largest therapeutic massage and spa franchise, joined Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer.

The result was "Massage for the Cure," an annual one-day fundraiser that has raised more than $1.4 million since its inception and is now a nationwide event.

The Massage Envy family proudly supports this cause that not only affects those with breast cancer, but their families as well.

According to the National Cancer Institute, there were approximately 192,370 cases of breast cancer in U.S. women in 2009.

Of these, more than 40,170 will die.

Men are affected as well with an estimated 440 succumbing to breast cancer each year.

Through events like Massage Envy's "Massage for the Cure" and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, more than $1.5 billion has been invested in the original promise by Nancy G. Brinker to her sister Susan G. Komen to do everything in her power to end breast cancer.

Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, and support science to find a cure.

Become a partner in the cause and participate in Massage for the Cure. You will feel the positive benefits of massage while knowing your donations are helping to fund vital breast cancer research.
