Sheriff's deputies and detectives converse outside the Santa Clarita Valley Civic Center in Valencia after taking a check forgery suspect into custody Thursday afternoon.

There were some exciting moments Thursday afternoon at the Bank of America branch on Valencia Boulevard at the corner of Citrus Avenue, across from Santa Clarita City Hall, when a man ran from the bank after allegedly trying to pass a forged check, a spokesman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station reported.

At about 4 p.m., a man described only as "a black male" was chased out of the bank, last seen running north along Citrus Street, in the direction of the Sheriff's station.

"I think they caught him," the station's watch commander told The Signal.

Shortly after 4 p.m., witnesses reported that a man being chased was in fact detained near the Valencia Public Library in the Santa Clarita Valley Civic Center.

Check back later for updates.
