Labor Day is for Americans

In response to Richard Trumka’s article “The stakes are high for Latino workers this Labor Day”: Labor Day is an American holiday for the citizens of the United States of America, not the illegal immigrants we have invading us.

The Arizona law, SB1070, is not directed at Latino families. It’s directed at illegal immigrants.

Your want our sympathy for these people. They come to our country and the first thing they do when they set foot in our soil is break the law. You want hard-working Americans to give them retirement and funding for the communities they’ve turned into slums. We don’t owe them a certain quality of life, although you may because of the money you made off their sweat. I don’t.

These illegal immigrants are protesting our laws, on our streets, walking on and burning our flag. Don’t you find that disrespectful? If they truly loved this country and wanted to be part of it they would be more respectful to “Old Glory,” our laws and learn our language.

Our immigration system is not broken; it just needs to be enforced, starting with the companies that hire them. The path for citizenship is open, you just have to follow it as many legal immigrants have done.

The time for change is in November. Vote for politicians who listen to and work for the American people.
